@MichaelCoughlin
Earlier today, the first round(s) of the ADCC World Submission Grappling Tournament of wrestling with people took place. We have a full page dedicated to just those results HERE. This ADCC 2015 analysis isn’t really analysis so much as just a few thoughts overall on the day:
ADCC 2015 Under 66 kg SEMI-FINALS tomorrow:
- Rubens Charles vs. Augusto Mendes
- Bruno Frazzato vs. Geo Martinez
No shock at Charles or Mendes going this far. Charles likely the favorite in most folk’s eyes. Glover making it to the Quarters was nice for him. Love his style but it’s also one that peters out around where he ended – flashy and fun usually loses to solid and boring. Gianne Grippo I thought would be in the semis.
ADCC 2015 Under 77 kg SEMI-FINALS tomorrow:
- Otavio Souza vs. Lucas Lepri
- Davi Ramos vs. Gilbert Burns
Souza vs. Lepri feels like the final to me. Ben Henderson losing in the first round had to be a major disappointment to him. Not that I thought he’d win the whole thing or whatever. Still, give him credit for going out there and giving it a try. Garry Tonon kind of got jobbed I think it how he was bracketed. Still, he’s developing and may very well win in 2017.
ADCC 2015 Under 88 kg SEMI-FINALS tomorrow:
- Romulo Barral vs. Yuri Simoes
- Rustam Chsiev vs. Keenan Cornelius
Biggest surprise to me was Lovato going out. He’s been on a roll (pardon the pun) lately and I thought he’d be in the final four. Keenan continues to do well in all tournaments because he’s just good. Sucks that Popovitch got injured though.
ADCC 2015 Under 99 kg SEMI-FINALS tomorrow:
- Joao Assis vs. Felipe Pena
- Xande Ribeiro vs. Rodolfo Vieira
Xande is a beast, that’s all there is to it. All of these guys are but he pulled off an oma plata. Absurd. Hats off to Hector Lombard for making it to the quarterfinals. Obviously a world-class Judoka, he showed he can use steroids while submission grappling as well.
ADCC 2015 Over 99 kg SEMI-FINALS tomorrow:
- Orlando Sanchez vs. Vinny Magalhaes
- Jared Dopp vs. Joao Rocha
Vinny is a stud. We know this. Sanchez trains with Werdum. But I’m seeing this thing as Magalhaes’s win. He will also be a strong favorite in the absolute division. I also get an irrational happiness out of seeing Dean Lister lose. Just seems like a one-trick pony and I demand my ponies do many many tricks.
ADCC 2015 Female Under 60 kg SEMI-FINALS:
Went about how I figured. Dern and Nicolini in the finals if you ask me, and you tacitly did by reading this.
ADCC 2015 Female Over 60 kg SEMI-FINALS:
Gaby Garcia will win this division. That’s probably the closest thing to a lock there is. She will also easily win the women’s absolute division. She is a monster inside a grappling suit. (Oh, and she’s much, much bigger than most girls.)
SUPERFIGHT Liborio d. Sperry
These are old men but they went at it like grizzled old bears. One of those battles where it’s not super entertaining but you saw two guys who simply refused to accept defeat. The definition of mentally tough.
Neat.
