From the penthouse to the outhouse, such are the ups and downs of the recent career of Amanda Nunes. Actually, that’s not totally true. In terms of opponents, it is, as the UFC is expected to announce that she will be defending her women’s bantamweight belt against Valentina Shevchenko. That’s a drop from Tate and Rousey.
However, the fight is to take place at the international fight week PPV in July. That’s a good show to be on, methinks. (Although the fact that there hasn’t been a big fight announced for it yet makes me wonder.)(I don’t wonder a lot though.)
She’s got some damn good fortune and should probably stop bitching about not getting pushed as much as Rousey. I mean, last year she was on UFC 196, 200, and 207. That’s three HUGE shows. And now she’s getting another international fight week slot. If she’s not having a good run then she needs Prozac.
The title bout will be a rematch of the two women’s UFC 196 fight, which Nunes won by decision. Since that fight last March, Nunes went on to dominate Miesha Tate to win the women’s title and then famously lit up Rousey in under a minute last December.
I’m sure more will be added to UFC 213 soon, and when that happens, we’ll be right here to report it a few minutes after everyone else.
