Brock Lesnar is suspended for one year and fined $250,000 as a result of his post-UFC 200 failed drug test.
This comes on the heels of Jon Jones receiving a suspension identical in length.
Depending on the timing of the UFC’s July International Fight Week, both would be eligible to fight at the biggest show. While Jones obviously missed the UFC 200 payday and would’ve fought again before next July, the odds are Lesnar wasn’t going to fight until July anyways – if ever again. For him, the fine will be a bigger deal and I’m sure some elk is going to get shot one extra time somewhere this weekend.
The fact that they both only received a year long suspension, while Chad Mendes is serving a two year ban, speaks to the inappropriate way USADA/NAC and others are applying the rules. While the substances are different, at their core they’re all designed for and used to cheat. If USADA truly believes stories like the one Jones told, that it was simply an off brand Dick Pill then they’re too incompetent to administer the program. If they don’t, then they’re too corrupt to run it.
While it’s good to see top stars also getting suspended for PED usage, it’s harmful to the sport to see inequality in the application of the law.
