Daniel Cormier, the champion of the world at 205 lbs, will defend his royal crown against Anthony Johnson. The battle shall take place in New York state, in the cit of Buffalo, to be specific.
This means, most importantly, that there won’t be a light heavyweight interim champion. At least not for a few months. Damn.
These two were scheduled to headline UFC 206 but Cormier got hurt. That would’ve been a rematch of their prior fight, which Cormier won via third round rear naked choke. Lucky for all of us, UFC 206 turned out to be one of the best cards ever, with one of the greatest fights in MMA history. Whew.
This adds depth to a card that already featured Chris Weidman vs Gegard Mousasi, so already it’s featuring a strong 1-2 combo up top. I guess dudes just love fighting in New York state.
Matt and I talk more about this on MMA & STUFF, available soon. Or HERE, depending on when you read this.
