MMA years are like dog years in that the four years Georges St. Pierre has been away are a lifetime. Consider where the other members of UFC 217’s card were at when GSP last fought:
- Joanna had four professional mixed martial arts fights under her belt and had never fought outside of Poland and Russia.
- Rose Namajunas was all of 2-1 and, like Joanna, fought in a division that didn’t exist within the UFC.
- Cody Garbrandt was in the middle of preparing for his second professional fight.
- TJ Dillashaw had lost a few, including his prior bout against Raphael Assunção.
- And current UFC Middleweight Champion, Michael Bisping, was in the middle of a pedestrian run that saw him alternate wins and losses as his career looked to be winding down.
So while those five have watched as their careers and lives have reached incredible heights, St. Pierre did gymnastics and worried about aliens. Saturday is going to be fun.
