After Saturday’s thrilling victory over Holly Holm, former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate has added what is no doubt a career highlight to her resume: UFC Gold.
Immediately, the word came out that Ronda Rousey would be Tate’s first title defense. Dana White had said before the fight that Rousey would get the winner and that makes sense: until Holm, she was one of the most dominant champions in MMA history.
However, Rousey’s schedule can be tricky and her commitment to the sport not always 100%. The entire reason Tate even got a fight with Holm was because Rousey wouldn’t be available to fight until October/November – if then. While the indications (and texts) make clear that Rousey is all in, should there be a delay or some other weirdness, one cannot expect Tate to sit on the sidelines indefinitely. The UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship is a full fledged attraction now.
“Ronda wasn’t watching the fight,” White stated. “I text Ronda, and she said, ‘What happened?’ I said, ‘Miesha just choked her unconscious.’ She said, ‘Looks like I gotta get back to work.’”
As such, we present to you the question du jour: who should Tate fight?
