This is the real world and the UFC knows we’re all on short time and so it’s borrowing against a future that’ll never come.
Mr. Brett Okamoto of ESPN, a news outlet, reported this first, according to people on twitter. His piece has this gem:
Khabib Nurmagomedov (27-0), the UFC’s undefeated lightweight champion, is serving a nine-month suspension for his role in a postfight brawl at UFC 229 in October. Nurmagomedov could have been eligible by April 13 had he filmed an anti-bullying message in Nevada, but he has stated he does not intend to return until this fall.
The UFC has opted to create an interim 155-pound title in his absence.
This is all supposedly because Khabib won’t film an anti-bullying PSA in Nevada – which he’s claiming is because Nevada is a place with drugs, sex, gambling, and other things that all existed there for the many, many years he’d already been fighting. Khabib is a man of principle, however, and the UFC’s lightweight division is pretty thin, so it was only natural to use Max Holloway.
Always had been curious as to exactly what was involved in a clown show.
According to UFC president Dana White, Tony Ferguson was offered the interim lightweight title fight against Max Holloway, and he turned it down. I have reached out to Ferguson for comment.
