Well, we called this one.
Weeks before anyone had the courage to speculate, we told you that Yoel Romero and Jacare would battle one another around the time of UFC 194. The UFC confirmed what we already knew in our hearts just now: The top two middleweights who aren’t named Chris Weidman or Luke Rockhold will square off in the undercard of the increasingly massive UFC 194 card in December.
The show is headlined by the rematch of a match that didn’t happen, when Jose Aldo defends his real UFC Featherweight Championship against Conor McGregor, who puts up his fake UFC Featherweight Championship.
Meanwhile, Chris Weidman defends his UFC Middleweight Championship against Mr. Rockhold as the co-main-event. Jacare vs Romero has to, one assumes, act as a de facto elimination match for that same title. Both are on incredible UFC runs and both are viable and scary challengers to Weidman in different ways.
We have in Romero one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers of all time, and an all around incredible athlete who has been on a tear. In Jacare, one of the jiu-jitsu world’s legends, a man who won every conceivable title there is in BJJ, we have a true submission master, but one who has taken to striking well compared to his contemporaries.
UFC 194, if it happens with just these three matches, is going to be awesome times of amazing. Odds are, more good stuff is to come. WINK!
