From other media folk, the talk now is that Miesha Tate was offered Holly Holm at UFC 200 and turned it down in favor of the Amanda Nunes fight (the one that is the equivalent of watching money burn). I get why, because Nunes is an easier fight for Tate, but it’s not like she must fight at UFC 200. If the UFC was telling her, “You’re gonna fight one way or the other” then that just further reinforces the idea that the company has a degenerative brain disease and we should start preparing the funeral now.
If the UFC was not forcing her to fight at UFC 200, and Tate is the one forcing them to let her fight (we should forever call this “pulling a Holm”) then she’s an idiot and I hope she goes broke and lives in a caravan with her boyfriend of a decade (what are they waiting for anyways?). Either way, forget the whole “you wanna be a fucking fighter?” shit, UFC. Start being THE BOSS OF THE COMPANY and stop this shit from happening.
She could have headlined a PPV with Holly and had all the money and spotlight to herself. I assume that would make more money than her being just one small piece of the big pie on UFC 200, right?
So, I see your point!
It’s interesting that since Conor started dictating who he will fight, it seems to be catching on.
I lost a little bit of respect for Meisha since finding out she turned down Holly. IF it was because she feels Nunes is more beatable (the likely reason), then she is protecting herself just like that Floyd fellow or Ronda kicking the Holly fight down the road into eternity.
I think UFC needs to push back on this and demand people take the fights they want or they get stripped.
In saying that, I have been following Nunes for a while and am thrilled she has a title match. I do understand this is not the best for money and if Tate loses she will have lost the Ronda rematch (at least in terms of it being a million buy PPV).
The general public will be so confused if Ronda returns and fights Nunes.
Oh well. Fights are fights and I can’t complain too much.
