This is a unique edition of Five Star Radio. It’s not in studio, but the audio picked up well enough. It’s a 25 minute (or so) podcast of musing, ramblings, what have you, on transgender individuals, the transgender transition, how it will redefine the very concept of identity and might actually strengthen monogamy.
I talk about why I think the transgender community faces greater challenges than the traditional gay community, where my ignorance lies (and I’m sure there is a lot of it), and what future medical technologies will reveal about humanity at its core. No, really, I do.
I fully admit, of course, that as a white as white can be, somewhat manly man (ok, I’m not at all, but … shhh!), straight (I AM!)(darn it) that I’m coming at this from a complete outsider’s perspective. And I also note that I intend to write a much more in depth piece on this some time in the future, but when the muse calls, you answer. I guess.
Inspired by a combination of the gay marriage debate, my own mind wandering at night, and the Netflix show Sense8, I say in advance that if I’ve offended, I truly, truly did not mean to. Transgender identification is a topic that interests me intellectually, sexually, and philosophically, and one which I think is important, maybe far, far more important than any sexual and gender issues society regularly talks about today.
