Superman Saturday Night or Afternoon or just Superman Saturday really is the best idea ever because all it is is random showcases of Superman in various incarnations throughout the year (though more focused on Smallville than anything lately).
This clip is from Smallville, yes, but: it legit may be the best representation of Superman. Ever. No exaggeration. (At least on film.) At its core, it’s just him putting on the suit for the first time and being heroic but it’s more than that.
- It’s TEN YEARS in the making.
- The way his Kryptonian father, Jor-El speaks is more important than people realize. Superman isn’t special because of powers but because of who he is at his core. And at his core: he’s a human being. He’s NOT an alien, no matter what people think. He spent every knowing moment of his life on earth, in the heartland of America. And then his late father, Pa Kent, hands BJJ the suit. “Both” his dads endorse him. This is why it’s ok he defends us all. It isn’t an outsider but rather someone as human as any of us.
Then for a show on THE CW we see some stunning special effects. Proof that less is more. Ten years of my life was spent leading to this moment. I’m pretty sure Clark was a Freshman in high school when I was. It’s a great moment.
