I’m a full supporter of “cancel culture” and I want all of us to be thorough with its parameters. Comedian Shane Gillis was fired from his two day gig as an SNL cast member for using a racial slur (while in character as a racist white person) on his podcast “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” with his co-host Matt McCusker. This was absolutely necessary and we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of who we need to stop punching down against in this country. I’m going to be the first to champion the forgotten sons and daughters of our world, The Clowns.
While scouring the internet for something to offend me, I stumbled upon something that shocked me. Much like the older brother of Michael Corleone who betrayed him and who’s name I can not say because Chris Cuomo said so, The Daily Beast broke my heart with the following headline (NSFW) “Is This Clown Donald Trump Really Going To Bumble Us Into A Shooting War With Iran?”
Please take a minute to decompress before continuing to read as I knowthat was a lot to absorb. How many times are we going to endure reading and hearing people like Donald Trump get referred to as “A Clown”? Clowns are good people, they go to school to learn how to make children of all ages laugh, they live an honorable life and aim to bring smiles to millions of faces around the world. So why is it STILL ok to call any bad person, including racists, homophobes, sexists, and criminals, Clowns?
We’ve allowed this to go on for far too long. I have several friends in the C.J.TA.F.M. (Clown, Juggler, Trapeze Artist, Fire Eater, Mime) community and they have not been pleased with the mischaracterization of bad people as Clowns.
“They’ve always been afraid to speak about it because nobody takes them seriously. They think they are just kidding. Even when they’re sad, people think they’re doing a bit, and they aren’t. It’s Clownist and Carny-phobic.” Said Milton, a local barista who isn’t a clown but is smart and always shares my blogs on Twitter because he agrees with me.
Sadly, many self hating Clowns, like my friend Gobbles, are too oppressed to stand up for themselves. I asked Gobbles his opinion on The Daily Beast controversy that only I’ve been brave enough to call attention to.
“I was carpooling to work with a bunch of my clown brothers and sisters the other day and we talked about this. All 37 of us agreed that we really don’t give a shit. Call them Clowns, it’s not a big deal, we’ll never care about this, ever, so stop speaking for us and fuck off.”
So sad. I can feel the oppression jumping off the page from that statement. It’s clearly Stockholm Syndrome and PTSD causing Gobbles to self hate like that. Well, if he can’t stand up to the man then I’m going to do it for him. I’m not a Clown (sadly) but I will take it upon myself to speak for them at every turn! My privilege will never allow me to feel the pain of a Clown, but I will use my privilege to combat it while celebrating the culture that the Clown community has given us, while not appropriating it like Joaquin Phoenix will in “The Joker” and Steve King has with “It”.
I want a full written apology to ME from “The Daily Beast” for equating MY friends in the C.J.TA.F.M. community to a racist scumbag (my apologies to condoms) like Donald Trump. I want their website CANCELLED because they’re only apologizing due to being called out on it by ME. Then maybe they will learn their lesson, which I’ll never acknowledge they’ve learned by demanding that they never earn a living writing articles or working any job ever again! I’ll make sure they never get hired anywhere and can’t afford their rent so they get kicked out of their home and become homeless and unwanted so I can then, and only then, finally fight for their right to housing and employment.
It’s your move Daily Beast. Make it the one I want because it’s all about ME!
