Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the amazing and incredible halfguarded.com UFC 194 FREE LIVE STREAM of consciousness recap, results, and play by play for, well, UFC 194. This here post, the one you’re reading? It will be updated throughout the week with whatever pertinent information is necessary, all leading up to this Saturday night when Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo clash in a battle of miniature titans! And of course, as we always do (because we’re nice) at the very bottom is the entire card and on fight night itself will be the UFC 194 Quick & Dirty Results, in case you’d like to ignore all the garbage. (We’ll also maybe move the news of the week stuff to the end, depending on how pretty this all looks.)
- Our first update: “Big” John McCarthy, stopped being “Big” when he first went off on his own before returning to reffing and thus the UFC holds a weird grudge, will be the referee for the main-event of Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo. And “veteran Herb Dean” (which is exactly how he’ll be introduced) is reffing the semi-main event of Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold.
- Update 2: The judges for the main-event are: Derek Cleary, Sal D’Amato, and Junichiro Kamijo. Sure. Whatever. Adelaide Byrd, Chris Lee, and Marcos Rosales get the nod for the semi-main. Ok.
- We’re only a few days out and no one hurt a rib… I just realized that McGregor recently said he’d be able to beat up Jesus. And Aldo had a rib injury. And JESUS HAD ONE TOO! Man, this fight just got heavier.
- Everyone made weight.
UFC 194 FREE LIVE STREAM (of consciousness) Less Important Prelims (UFC Fight Pass, 630/530/430/330)
- Marcio Alexandre Jr. vs. Court McGee
Round One
Eh. Fight was ok. We’re gonna have the regular super in depth coverage starting with FS1. For now, this was ok. Kinda boring. McGee hardly impressed even though
MCGEE D. ALEXANDRE JR.
- John Makdessi vs. Yancy Medeiros
Round One
Close fight. Neither guy was interested in actually hurting the other so it came across as more of s glorified sparring session.
Medeiros d. Makdessi, split.
- Magomed Mustafaev vs. Joe Proctor
Round One
Magomed overwhelmed, landing a bunch of kicks, then a brutal knee to finish Proctor in the first. Very impressive.
Magomed Mustafaev d. Joe Proctor
UFC 194 FREE LIVE STREAM (of consciousness) More Important Prelims (FS1, 8/7/6/5)
- Kevin Lee vs. Leonardo Santos
Round One
Wow, the crowd is pretty loud tonight. Santos lands a strong takedown halfway through the round, but couldn’t hold Lee down and wasn’t able to really to do much. Didn’t matter though, cause about a minute later he landed a big right hand and laid into Lee with an insane amount of ground and pound. Lee was still trying to move, but he was beaten up pretty bad and took a ton of shots.
SANTOS D. LEE
- Warlley Alves vs. Colby Covington
Round One
Covington takes Alves down early, avoiding a guillotine. Lands some ground and pound, not bad, but nothing amazing and Alves gets up, but then drops down with a SUPER deep guillotine, and this time it’s unbreakable. Covington picks him all the way up, slams them both down, but that thing doesn’t let up and Covington taps out.
ALVES D. COVINGTON
- Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger vs. Tecia Torres
Round One
Torres moved really well early on, and when Lybarger tried to get a clinch, Torres immediately spun her around and leaned on her, landing some smaller hits before they more or less just hugged for another minute. Each seemed to try to separate at various moments, but it just stayed there. BORING. But I’d give round one to Torres.
Round Two
Not much going on standing until a clinch from Lybarger, and I settled in for another boring round. Rogan asked if they should call Lybarger by her full name (it’s hyphenated and all). Even they’re bored. Oh look! Torres turned them around! They separate! Torres lands some pretty big shots. She’s doing well… and they’re clinched. I wish I could fast forward in real life. They separate, and Torres lands some big shots, forcing Lybarger to shoot for a takedown, which doesn’t work out very well for her, as Torres lands on top and hits quick a few shots of solid ground and pound. Torres looks to pass Lybarger’s half guard, but doesn’t land a whole lot of shots in the meantime. She does finally stand up and land some big shots, which opens her up to Lybarger’s arm bar to knee bar submission attempts. Round got a lot better at the end. Torres’ round again.
Round Three
Torres lands some good shots while Lybarger chases her down. Joe Rogan says, “Speeded.” A little back and forth until Torres lands a huge shot and then a flurry of even more massive shots, but… then they clinch. Torres has really rained down some destruction. Lybarger is bleeding pretty bad. They separate and Torres comes out swinging, and Lybarger lands a big shot! But time runs out because… she… clinched. Torres won round three as well. The decision has to go to her.
TORRES D. JONES-LYBARGER
- Urijah Faber vs. Frankie Saenz
Round One
Faber acme in looking relaxed and confident. Definitely feeling good and confident. But Saenz does a good job early on, gets the better of Uriah in some grappling, and lands an extremely good inside leg kick that knocks Faber off balance enough to knock him down. Saenz keeps doing well until Faber lands a big elbow that looks like it slightly rocks Saenz. But if so he recovers quickly. They go back to trading, and it’s pretty even overall. Saenz crawling ahead, stuffing all of Faber’s takedown attempts. I’d say Saenz won round one.
Round Two
Faber lands a massive knee early in the round, followed up by some big shots up against the cage. BIG ELBOWS. Big knees to the body. And then, just as Saenz is getting back at Uriah, Uriah lands a huge throw into side control. Saenz flips Uriah right over though with pure power. Wow. Now they’re back up and Saenz looks like the fresher of the two. They separate and Saenz lands another leg kick that trips up Faber. He looks pretty tired. They go back and forth for the next minute, with Saenz getting the better of their exchanges, but when the bell rings I’d still say Faber won the round. He was really close to finishing in the first minute.
Round Three
Faber comes out still looking a bit tired, and Saenz just keeps coming. They go back and forth without a ton of big moments or important punches, until Faber lands a takedown with about a minute to go. He doesn’t do much with it though, and they’re back up after a few seconds. Honestly, this round could go either way, but it could almost be Faber’s round with the takedown. Close round.
FABER D. SAENZ (DECISION)
UFC 194 FREE LIVE STREAM (of consciousness) MAIN CARD (PPV, 10et/9ct/8mt/7et/???Hawaii Time)
- Max Holloway vs. Jeremy Stephens
Round One
Not a great round for either fighter. Both guys landed a fair number of blows but other than a bit of clinch work there wasn’t much grappling. I’d give the round to Holloway but it was close.
Round Two
Holloway looks better early in the round. Holloway lands a decent spinning back kick, but Stephens grabs the leg and they’re clinching. Holloway does a good job separating though. Both guys are landing some darn good shots. Another really close round, but I’d say Holloway probably took it and Stephens’ corner agrees.
Round Three
Holloway lands a big takedown and some solid ground and pound early in the round. Moves to side control and when Stephens tries to stand up Holloway jumps on his back and very nearly sinks a rear naked choke. But Stephens had to flop to his back to escape. Holloway gets side control, then takes the back again and starts going for the choke. Stephens escapes though and presses Holloway against the cage immediately. Stephens moves forward, takes a deep breath, and starts trying to throw big shots. Holloway is lighter on his feet at this point though, and does a nice job keeping out of the way of Stephens’ extra heavy punches. Man, Stephens’ corner screams at him to throw down, and Stephens does his best, but can’t put Holloway away. I’d say Holloway won the round pretty big, and won the fight.
HOLLOWAY D. STEPHENS (DECISION)
- Demian Maia vs. Gunnar Nelson
Round One
Maia closed the distance immediately, but Gunnar got a quick takedown and was on top for about two seconds before Maia got up. Maia tried another trip, but Gunnar once again lands on top. They’re in an awkward half guard (HEY LIKE OUR SITE!). And Maia uses half guard to get a sweep, which he turns into taking Nelson’s back. This is bad for Nelson. They transition, but Maia is in mount, landing pretty big shots. Man, Maia has an insane mount. That really is a world class mount. Maia takes the back again. Nelson is trying to shake Maia off, and he gets Nelson back to his knees. This is gonna make Nelson tired as hell real quick. Maia even uses a body triangle and is landing a fair number of shots. This is a super dominant round for Maia at this point. As soon as he was on top, the whole round went to Maia. He is clearly the better grappler. Maia goes for an armbar from the back at the end of the round, which Nelson escapes and he lands a couple shots during the last seconds. Still, definitely Maia’s round. Almost a 10-8.
Round Two
Maia struggles for the takedown the first chunk of round two, with Nelson getting on top at first, but about 90 seconds in Maia takes Nelson’s back. Nelson is standing with Maia hanging on his back and landing some hard, damaging shots. Nelson drops to the ground, clearly getting beaten up by Maia’s strikes from the back. Maia is so insanely good. But Nelson rolls and lands in Maia’s guard! Nice escape. Maia elevates with a butterfly hook (SO NICE) and transitions into a single leg takedown. It’s basically what I try to do every time I roll, except I suck and it doesn’t work that well. Maia is on top in Nelson’s butterfly guard, but Maia is landing strikes at will and every time Nelson tries something, Maia gets an even better position and lands a ton of massive shots. This is another big round for Maia. He transitions into full mount right at the end of the round, and without question Maia won that round. Honestly, that could easily be two straight 10-8 rounds. Pure dominance from Maia. You can see Nelson’s skill, but it just isn’t enough to handle Maia’s obviously higher level skill. Nelson needs to stop trying to grapple. They should be telling him to keep distance on the feet and try to land a big KO punch.
Round Three
Maia gets an early takedown, but Nelson springs right back up to his feet. Nelson tries to sink a guillotine choke, but Maia doesn’t even look worried about it, and gets top position. 4 minutes left. Looks like it’ll be a LONG 4 minutes for Nelson. He needs to get to his feet. He is screwed right now. Maia lands some more ground and pound before taking Nelson’s back with a body triangle. Lands some more ground and pound from the back and tries to sink the choke. Nelson is eventually able to spin out of back control into Maia’s full guard, and Maia holds on super tight until the bell sounds. Gotta be Maia’s round as well. Another potential 10-8 round. Big win for Maia. He’s definitely getting into title contention. He deserves a big fight next against a top 5 dude. Maia versus Rory Macdonald or something. He called out the winner of the next title fight. And Rogan asked him about his ranking, and Maia won my heart with a description of what’s wrong with UFC rankings because I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE SAID CAUSE IT WAS A MOUTHFUL OF DICKS.
MAIA D. NELSON (DECISION)
- Yoel Romero vs. Ronaldo Souza
Round One
Excited for this one. Lot of feeling out early in the round, with Yoel showing better movement, but Jacare being very calm and using less energy. But about 3 minutes in, Yoel lands a huge spinning back fist that drops Jacare, who calls Yoel down to grapple, and Yoel goes down with him! Big ground and pound. Yoel doesn’t seem scared of Jacare on the ground at all and is landing some monstrous shots. But after a minute on the ground, Yoel slows down and Jacare throws up a quick arm bar attempt, but doesn’t land it. Yoel lands some more big shots, and Jacare goes for another arm bar that actually looked pretty close, but Yoel gets out and lands some more big shots. Jacare looks dizzy walking back to his corner after the bell rings. Definitely Yoel’s round.
Round Two
Does anyone else want to sing “The First Yoel?” Anyways, patient beginning of the round from both fighters, and Yoel calmly comes forward to get back into his rhythm. Jacare goes for a takedown, and Yoel just shrugs it off. Man, he is one hell of a wrestler. Jacare goes for another takedown later and Yoel grabs the fence, which gave him a reversal on the takedown, and the ref actually stood them up because of the cheating. Wow. Very good work from the ref. They’re started back on their feet. Yoel is starting to look tired. Close round, possibly Jacare’s round, but it’s tough to call. That said, it looks like Jacare might be in better condition coming into round three.
Round Three
Not a whole lot happening early in the round. Jacare attempts a takedown, but misses it. Yoel definitely looks slower. Jacare lands some huge shots about halfway through the round and immediately lands a takedown! He moves into half guard, and has Yoel controlled on the ground! Big moment for Jacare. He’s so dangerous on the ground. This could be the end of the fight. Jacare lands some ground and pound and tries to move into mount, but can’t quite get there. Big elbows. More control. Definitely Jacare’s territory here. With a minute to go, it’s looking like Jacare’s round. The ref cautions Yoel against eye pokes. Jacare attempts to pass half guard but fails. With about ten seconds to go, Yoel gets back to his feet. Round ends in a clinch. Definitely Jacare’s round. Could be a draw fight. Yoel definitely deserved a 10-8 in round 1, and rounds 2 and 3 could be Jacare’s.
ROMERO D. JACARE (DECISION)
- Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold UFC Middlweight Championship of the World
Round One
Does Weidman’s American flag have to be made by Reebok? Anyways, Weidman took Rockhold’s back almost immediately in the first round, but while Rockhold was standing. Rockhold tries to shake him off, but Weidman has some crazy control for a time, but they finally get back to a standing position with Rockhold on the outside. After a few seconds, Weidman turns them around and gets a takedown. He’s definitely the better wrestler. Not a ton of damage by the halfway point of Round 1. But lots of energy expended. They get back up, and Weidman gets another takedown, and Rockhold tries for a guillotine, but he doesn’t have guard so it’s really just burning up Rockhold’s arm strength. Whoa. Ref stands them up. Rockhold lands a couple shots, and Weidman goes for another takedown, and when Rockhold tries for a guillotine he’s able to reverse Weidman and ends the round on top. It was a close round, but the guillotines didn’t do much and other than a couple strikes by Rockhold, I’d say Weidman did more. Weidman’s round. Both fighters are taking some deep breaths between rounds.
Round Two
Rockhold lands a big shot right off the bat, rocking Weidman, who recovers but takes some more kicks while trying to close the distance and get a clinch and some more wrestling going. Rockhold looks like the quicker fighter, and possibly the harder hitter, but Weidman does a decent job backing Rockhold up several times, limiting Rockhold’s ability to attack with kicks. But when Rockhold can let those kicks fly… dang. He kicks hard. About halfway through the round Weidman is definitely trying to get back into the clinch and back to some wrestling. I gotta say Weidman looks a bit tired in this round. Rockhold is definitely faster at this point. Not a good sign in a five round fight. That said, Rockhold isn’t doing a hell of a lot of it. He’s landing a bit better, especially with the kicks, but it isn’t devastating yet. It’s wearing Weidman down though, and I’m thinking this could go Rockhold’s way in the next couple rounds. Weidman did land a really nice, painful kick to Rockhold’s body right toward the end of the round, but I’d still say round two goes to Rockhold.
Round Three
Weidman looks good in the beginning of the round, landing some light but not exhausting kicks to the body and legs. Rockhold isn’t doing too much in the first 90 seconds. Weidman gets an easy takedown just after the 90 second mark, and Rockhold now looks really tired. Rockhold gets back up by scooting to the cage, but he looks tired and maybe a little beat up. I love that I can’t read these two. Weidman has found his second wind in this round just as Rockhold loses his first wind (is that a thing? first wind?). Weidman is landing a bunch of 70% power kicks to the body on Rockhold, and even though they aren’t individually devastating, they look like they’re wearing him out. Rockhold gets a takedown when Weidman tries a stupid wheel kick. Takes Weidman’s back, but Weidman turns and Rockhold gets full mount. Strong position and he’s landing solid ground and pound. Huge change of pace here. 40 seconds to go and Weidman looks like he might get finished. Weidman is bleeding and not defending very well!!! The ref is about to stop it! 10 more seconds!!!! Can WEIDMAN HOLD OUT???? Weidman holds on! Saved by the bell!!!!! Holy crap! Will he be able to answer for round 4?? Rockhold’s round for sure, and so devastatingly by the end that it could be a 10-8!
Round Four
Rockhold goes for another takedown at the beginning of the round. Weidman stops a takedown by grabbing the fence. But after another bit of fighting for it, Rockhold gets the takedown. Huge for Rockhold. Weidman looks beaten up and tired. Weidman had never been taken down in the Octagon before. Wow. Nuts. Rockhold lands a bunch of strong ground and pound while Weidman does little to stop him. Weidman is bleeding pretty bad at this point. Rockhold gets full mount and lands a ton of devastating ground and pound, leading Herb Dean to stop the fight. Luke Rockhold is our new Middleweight champ! AKA has another champ!
ROCKHOLD D. WEIDMAN (TKO)
-
