Pizzeria Due is one of a few famous deep dish joints in Chicago. In fact, it has an older sibling of a restaurant in Pizzeria Uno. Pin-pointing exactly who it was that first decided to make pizza into a 5 inch thick pie is difficult, if not impossible, if one isn’t willing to do the research. Spoiler: no research has been done.
It isn’t for everyone, that’s for damn sure. Those who haven’t had deep dish will mistakenly treat it like any other pizza, figuring that 3 or 4 slices is what it will take to satiate their hunger. They’re all – all – surprised to be stuffed after one piece, such is the depth of the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza.
