Long Island has people with a funny accent. It’s not too funny but you can hear it if you’re on the listen for it. When I was at – ahem – YALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I talked to this chick who was from Long Island. 90% of what she said, sounded normal but there were a few times when I thought, “NOT ONE OF US! DOING IT WRONG!”
Not that I have issues. What I do have is an appreciation that this is on Big Fox and thus will be over hours earlier than normal. YAY!

Chris Weidman vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Middleweight
What Happened?
A near perfect* clinic from Weidman. He outwrestled Kelvin, outstruck him with ease, and his grappling was next level. It all culminated with Weidman getting the back in the third, floated with it until he caught Kelvin turning. He baited the Mexican and locked in a deep arm triangle choke. Kelvin held on but eventually was forced to tap.
*But not totally. Kelvin did drop Weidman with a left hand at the very end of the first round, which hurt the Long Islander. It wasn’t enough to end it though.
Winner: Weidman, R3, sub

Dennis Bermudez vs. Darren Elkins
Featherweight
What Happened?
Oh, Lordy, I forgot about how horrendous Elkins’s tattoo is. Seriously looks like it was done in prison my a member of the aryan brotherhood. Jeezuz, man, don’t let your drunk friends near the tattoo gun. Elkins wrestle butt fucking here in the first. Takedown, back take, body triangle now. Escape by Dennis. Then they fought and fought. Elkins did his deal where he glued himself to the hips and fought the dirtiest of boxing matches. Dude is exhausting. Dennis hung tough though and didn’t quit and it got close near the end.

Patrick Cummins vs. Gian Villante
Light Heavyweight
What Happened?
Gian had Cummins rocked in the first minute. Then Cummins got headbutted on accident and recovered a bit. They did shitty boxing/wrestling thereafter. Both feared one another until the third when Gian finally cracked Cummins a few more times, staggering The Man Who Made Cormier Cry. Buuuut staggered doesn’t mean finished. Asses.
Winner: Cummins, split dec.

Jimmie Rivera vs. Thomas Almeida
Bantamweight
What Happened?
Rivera isn’t reinventing the wheel but he’s sure as hell driving like a mad man. He’s very similar to Mike Tyson. He bobs his head as he slips inside and then fires off a bunch of hooks. And those hooks landed during the fight, as he dropped the Brazilian numerous times with each hand. Which isn’t to say it was a route. Almeida hung tough and clipped the Jersey boy a few times, it just wasn’t enough. Rivera showed some smarts in the third, immediacy establishing his takedown. Then it ended. It was good.

Kennedy was a better wrestler and so he won. They were even enough striking but Kennedy would time TDs very well and get them throughout the fight. It wasn’t super good.

What Happened?
Vera defended a TD with a Kimura. He rolled with it to an armbar. Fin.

What Happened?
Albini dropped him to death in like two minutes. He rocked him with a short left hook. Then the audio was off a bit. He was speaking but it wasn’t in sync so it seemed like he was a ventriloquist dummy. Oh, and Stan kept saying he had great speed and then asked him, “Your speed is awesome, right?” Dork.

Shane Burgos vs. Godofredo Pepey
Featherweight
What Happened?
Burgos wrecked Pepe here. Totally outclassed him for fifteen minutes. Almost had the Brazilian finished a few times but never fought dumb chasing the end. Burgos would drop Pepey and then walk away. He wasn’t going to risk the ground of Pepey. Pepey tried. He threw as many as he could, as hard as he could, but it wasn’t enough.
