It’s official: Wanderlei Silva released by UFC as of today. This means that Silva should be free to go to Japan, do whatever drugs he wants, and fight very small men and kick them in the head. In what is almost assuredly related news, Silva also apologized for saying that UFC fights were fixed. In turn, the UFC is no longer suing Silva for, ya know, being a liar. The full apology is as follows:
I Was Wrong, apologize.
“In July of last year, I posted a number of comments on Facebook and Twitter, which included repeated claims that the UFC “fixed fights” and that I could “prove it.” I hereby retract any such statements in their entirety as I failed to understand that the term “fight-fixing” specifically refers to the illegal action or practice of dishonestly determining the outcome of a contest before it occurs. I understand the UFC’s reputation would be harmed if my fans and others actually believed the UFC engaged in fight fixing, and I have no evidence to support such a claim. I apologize for any misunderstanding my comments may have caused.”
Now that he’s free of the shackles of the evil fight fixing UFC, Silva can go to Japan where nothing shady ever happens…
“The UFC has released Wanderlei from any and all obligations or rights to Zuffa, which obviously now allows him to do whatever he wants,” said his attorney, Ross Goodman, to MMAjunkie.
Wanderlei Silva released by UFC: Now what?
But, yeah, obviously Japan is the most likely place for him now. As he is still not licensed to fight in Nevada and thus the other athletic commissions would most likely honor said lack of licensing, this best option is most likely Japan. Once he is there he will probably fight small people or Fedor. My money is on small people, especially if they’re willing to be kicked in the head while on all fours. If you’re Japanese and weigh less than 170 lbs, watch out. I’m looking at you, Shinya Aoki.
In theory, this also frees him to fight for Bellator, provided he can get licensed. And provided the UFC release permits him to fight for the company that will soon give us Royce vs Ken 3! He’ll probably do ok ratings wise, and who knows what he’ll cost. Have him fight Kimbo. Or Dada 3000. Let his career go out on a note of glory.
Oh. No. Shit. I just realized: Wanderlei Silva released by UFC means Sakuraba is going to die next year. Fuck.
Wanderlei Sikva wil end up stomping his way to several pointless wins and then get beat by a no one like King Mo…
