On March 3rd, Fox movie studio (whatever it’s called) takes a risk that isn’t a risk to normal people but is to movie people: they’re going to produce an R rated Wolverine movie. This is the lastest trailer(s) for the film.
It doesn’t sound crazy, as last year, Deadpool proved that an R rated comic book film could do big business, but this is a different beast. The Wolverine/X-Men franchise is a proven winner. It’s a (now ten movie deep) franchise that’s made billions, mostly revolving around Wolverine. To take all that and literally say, “FUCK IT!” is ballsy. It also looks incredible.
This trailer doesn’t really show much insofar as it reveals new plot details. The little girl shows that she has claws, just like the comic book character, X-23. She’s also insanely vicious. She openly murders several people in the trailer alone. I mean, we were all prepared for Logan himself to do some damage but having what looks like an 8 year old girl (I have NO clue how old she is – kids all look the same age to me until they hit 18) cut people down and flash blood stained claws is fucking BAD. ASS.
Plus, Logan and Prof. X both say, “Fuck.”
I’m sure the film will heavily deviate from the comic book canon because to be faithful would be absurd. How absurd? Glad you asked.
Who is the girl in Logan?
X-23 (Laura) is a clone of Wolverine. Yes, they cloned a very old man and the clone ended up being female. This is because some shit happened and somehow they lost (?) a y chromosome.
She also has a cool little weakness in that there’s a trigger scent that, when she is hit with it, sends her into a murderous rage. Not sure if that’ll be in the movie. Seems kinda tough, because that was something the Evil Program designed into her. Oh, they also took her two bone claws and laced them with adamantium just for shits and giggles. (In the comics, she also has a claw that comes out of her foot.)
The movie implies she’s maybe related to Logan, which makes sense because how many mutations cause someone to get healing powers and claws? He doesn’t know her but that can be explained away as, “Logan fucks a lot of loose women and lost track.” Who knows. One thing that’s off a bit is that mutant powers, in general, develop in puberty. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE, FOX MOVIE PEOPLE.
